Second? Coming

He was Here.
But you missed Him.

He was There
At the corner of Hope and Despair,
Seeking shelter for
The ailing homeless woman;
As you hurried,
Eyes averted.
To kneel and pray in
Your bright, warm church.

He was There
In the circle of Fear and Indifference
Seeking comfort for
The coworker’s teary eyes,
Wounded by the
Hateful remark;
As you silently turned
Back to the blinking
Cursor on your computer screen.

He was There
On the edge of Justice,
Seeking hope for
The young, tired neighbor,
The waitress--
Late, again
Being fired, again
Because her babysitter cancelled,
Again;
As you turned back to
Your candle-lit dinner.

He is There
Everyday
On the brink of Possibilities. . .

He was Here.
But you missed Him.

Jesus wept.
